Insider tips

For the best value and full range of activity options while on the islands, it’s best to wait and book everything once you arrive. Many resorts offer cruises and snorkelling, among other things, at a reduced rate to their guests.

If you’re trying to avoid the rain, stick to the leeward (south and west) sides of the Hawaiian islands.

Hawaiian ‘aloha’ shirts are acceptable wear for men anywhere from the beach to business to a fine dining restaurant.

Try to get along to a traditional luau feast, usually held at the main resort hotels. Traditional island cuisine such as kalua pig, lomi salmon and poi (taro) is served usually accompanied by Hawaiian music, hula and other local entertainment.
