Bangkok accommodation

General info

Bangkok is a bustling, fast-paced and chaotic metropolis. It’s exotic and enticing, it’s wild and unruly and it will chew you up and spit you out if you’re not travel savvy.

Things you must see & do

Travellers are spoilt for choice for things to see and do in and around the city. A visit to at least one of the many temples should feature in your itinerary – the Grand Palace is completely stunning and houses the enormous and spiritually important Emerald Buddha.

A visit to Khao San Road is a rite of passage for any traveller to Bangkok. It’s the epicenter for tourists and is lined with delicious and cheap street food, tourist digs and knock off handbags and watches that are all the ‘same same’, but different.

Other must do’s include catching a Thai boxing match, indulging in a Thai massage (just be clear that you’re not after a ‘happy ending’) and taking a trip out to the river Kwai.

Insider tips

Bangkok gives a lot of, well, ‘bang for your buck’. The cheapest backpacker will be at home in the very affordable accommodation, and those who have a few more Baht can really live it up.

There are many traps for young players in Bangkok, and regardless of how much money you have you still need sense!

Avoid the tuk-tuk ‘temple tours’ as you’ll end up at endless tailors and jewellers. Remember to barter but not to offend, and if you’re out for a bit of fun, always check for the Adam’s apple.
